Contacts Migration (iOS & Android)

Getting your contacts onto your new phone is very important for most people. Let’s get it done!


What You’ll Need #

From Android #

  • Your current Android phone & your new privacy phone.
  • A method to transfer the .vcf file to the new phone (e.g., Bluetooth, USB cable, the Localsend app or email).

From iPhone #

  • Access to iCloud.com with your Apple ID credentials.
  • A trusted device to download the .vcf file (laptop, desktop, or another phone).
  • A way to transfer the .vcf file to your new phone (e.g., the Localsend app, email, or USB).

Note: If you choose to download the localsend app, you’ll need to be able to connect to the same wifi network on both devices.


Exporting Contacts from iOS #

  1. Use iCloud:
    • Open iCloud.com on a trusted device.
    • Sign in with your Apple ID and navigate to Contacts.
    • Select all contacts, then click Export vCard from the settings menu.
    • Save the .vcf file to your computer.
  2. Transfer to New Device:
    • Use a secure method to transfer the .vcf file, such as email, the Localsend app, or USB file transfer.

Note: In order to transfer files to your new privacy phone from a computer, you must enable USB File Transfer once you plug in the device.

If you downloaded your contacts onto a computer, we need to be able to transfer this data from the computer to the phone. This can be done in many ways, we recommend you try using an alternative like localsend first to simplify this process.

Android to Android: Exporting Contacts #

  1. Use the Contacts App:
    • Open the default Contacts app.
    • Navigate to Settings > Export.
    • Choose to export contacts as a .vcf file.
  2. Transfer File:
    • Send the .vcf file to your new phone using the method of your choice. (Bluetooth, email, or a USB drive.)

Importing Contacts to Your De-Googled Device #

  1. On Android:
    • Open the Contacts app.
    • Go to Settings > Scroll to the bottom > Import from .vcf.
    • Locate and select your .vcf file to import contacts.
